How to Avoid Scams
Stay abreast of scams
Common scams include online dating, money transfer, work from home, and debt relief scams.
Be vigilant
Carefully research any offer whether it comes over the telephone, via email, or through friends and family. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Protect
Don't give out your checking account, credit card, or Social Security number over the phone unless you initiate the call or know who you're dealing with.
Notify
Notify your financial institutions immediately if you receive a suspicious phone call from someone purporting to represent the institution and asking for account information "to verify a statement" or "award a prize.
Stay Alert
Be on guard against identity theft and fraud with alerts. Alerts are a customizable and convenient way for you to stay on top of your account activity.
