Professional Experience and Responsibilities
Rafael Bustillo serves as BBVA USA’s chief operating officer and is responsible for the bank's Commercial Banking, Commercial & Institution Real Estate, Wealth Management and Auto Finance units. Bustillo is a member of BBVA USA’s Management Committee and reports directly to BBVA USA President and CEO Javier Rodríguez Soler.
Bustillo has been with BBVA USA since 1987. Prior to his current role, he lead Commercial Banking until 2009. Prior to that, he was Commercial Banking’s Denver Market President and Western Region Executive for Arizona, California, Colorado and New Mexico. He was also the bank's Gainesville Market President and Regional Executive for Northeast Florida and Southeast Alabama Community Markets, and Commercial and Private Banking Manager in Huntsville, Alabama.
Professional and Community Activities
Active in the community in all of the markets where he has served, Bustillo is a past member of many boards, including United Way, Boys and Girls Club, the Houston Zoo, Junior Achievement and the American Heart Association, where he was president. During his tenure in Colorado, he served on the board of directors and the executive committees of the Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce and Metro Denver Economic Development Committee. Bustillo is also a former board member of the Consumer Banker Association and the Texas Mezzanine Fund. He currently serves on the board of the Greater Houston Partnership.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in International Trade and Finance from Louisiana State University, and is a graduate of the Louisiana State University Graduate School of Banking.
