Professional Experience and Responsibilities

Eric Ensmann was named Chief Risk Officer for BBVA USA in June 2021. He is responsible for the development and implementation of the enterprise risk management program and its integration in the day-to-day management of BBVA’s operations in the U.S.

Ensmann reports to U.S. President and CEO Shane Clanton.

Ensmann was previously the US Director of Risk Internal Control and the Head of Risk for the BBVA SA New York Branch. His responsibilities included oversight of the Credit Quality Review and Model Risk Management functions. Additionally he was a member of many of the bank's risk oversight governance committees.. Over his career he has overseen many key risk processes including Enterprise Risk Management, Credit & Portfolio Management, Credit Policy, Risk Reporting, and Allowance. Ensmann joined the bank in 2004 as a SVP and Commercial Bank Relationship Manager in the Houston office.

Professional and Community Activities

Ensmann has previously served as a member of the RMA Enterprise Risk Management Council and currently sits on the University of Houston Commercial Banking Program Advisory Board.

Education

Ensmann majored in Finance at the University of Houston’s C.T. Bauer College of Business and completed the RMA/Wharton Advanced Risk Management Program at the University of Pennsylvania.
