One of the clear developments arising from the COVID pandemic has been the buyer preference for “no touch” payments at the point-of-sale (POS). The safe solution? Contactless cards (also known as “tap and go”) have become increasingly common in markets such as Australia, Canada, Europe, and now the United States. These cards work by using radio frequency identification (RFID) to communicate with the POS card reader, allowing secure authentication and authorization with card issuers like BBVA. We estimate that around 75% of U.S. merchants now have the RFID technology to accept contactless card transactions.
Which brings us to this exciting news! BBVA is bringing safer contactless technology to our commercial cardholders. Contactless technology will be embedded in the chip of your card upon card re-issuance, replacement or any newly issued BBVA commercial credit cards. You’ll know your card includes this technology when you see this contactless symbol right on the card itself:
